Academic paragraphs are usually at least three sentences long, but can be longer. The first part of the second sentence provides the topic for this paragraph--imagery in a static scene.
Note that in the second paragraph "feeling" came first, and in this paragraph "sight" comes first. Transitions appear in topic sentences along with main ideas, and they look both backward and forward in order to help you connect your ideas for your reader. In many cases, these savings amount to more than the cost of riding public transportation.
